  1. How does Gifts of Light work?

    Each Gift of Light that you give is either a real and personal gift that will be given to a patient staying at CAMH over the holidays, or a gift that assists a patient along the road to recovery. When you buy a Gift of Light, you will receive a special holiday card to give to a friend or family member. This card explains how the gift made in their honour has touched the life of someone living with a mental illness or addiction. So, simply choose a gift, complete your order, sit back, relax and leave the rest to us.

  2. How can I purchase Gifts of Light?

    You can purchase Gifts of Light by using your credit card over the internet at www.camhgiftsoflight.ca or with your credit card through the CAMH Foundation at 416-979-6909 or toll free at 1-800-414-0471.

  3. What kinds of cards do you have?

    We offer:

    - Electronic cards (E-card)
    - PDF cards that you can print
    - Hard copy paper cards

    If you would like to send an E-card when you purchase your Gifts of Light on the website it is emailed directly to the recipient within 24 hours.  If you would prefer to download your own, a PDF file can be printed, personalized and sent out by you. We can also mail hard copy paper cards to you directly via Canada Post which you can personalize and send out yourself.

  4. What if I don’t want to receive any cards?

    We offer you the option to not receive any cards for the purchase of your gifts at the time of purchase on the internet at www.camhgiftsoflight.ca, over the phone, or through the mail.

  5. When is the last day I can purchase Gifts of Light to have a paper card sent to me?

    You can purchase Gifts of Light through the mail, by phone (416-979-6909) or toll free at      1-800-414-0471 or on the webite.  If you would like to receive paper cards to give to your friends and family, please purchase your Gifts of Light by December 7, 2009 at midnight to ensure you receive your cards for the holidays.

  6. If I buy a gift on behalf of a friend or relative, how will that person be notified?

    You can choose to receive a Gifts of Light paper card that you can use to let friends and family members know that a gift has been given in their name. Alternatively, you can email them a Gifts of Light E-card.

  7. Can I send a card directly to my friend?

    You can send a card directly to your friend by sending an E-card.  Or, you can choose to have us send you a paper card or you can download and print a pdf card for you to send the card directly to your friend. Whichever method you choose, you can add your own personal message to the person receiving the gift. Or, you can choose to have us send you a paper card and you can deliver it to the recipient.

  8. Can I get one card for multiple gifts?

    No. Currently each gift receives an individual card. So, for example, if you buy two blankets for one person you will receive two cards.

  9. Can I place a message in the card?

    You can write your own personalized message in any of the three card options you choose.

  10. How long does it take for my card to be delivered?

    PDF cards can be downloaded as soon as you purchase a gift. E-cards are sent within 24 hours of your purchase. If you select a hard copy card, it may take up to 5 working days to process. Then it is in Canada Post’s hands, which could be another 2-5 days. Please note that you can't select the hard copy card option between December 7 at midnight and January 6 because we can't guarantee timely delivery for the holiday season.

  11. What happens if my card does not arrive?

    If for some reason either your E-card or hard copy card does not arrive please call 416-979-6909 or toll free at 1-800-414-0471 and we will be able to issue you a new E-card or hard copy card.

  12. Do CAMH Gifts of Light E-cards expire?  Do they have to be retrieved within a specified period of time?

    E-cards are sent directly to the recipients inbox and will remain active as long as the recipient does not delete the email.

  13. Will I receive a tax receipt?

    When you purchase a Gift of Light item, you are in fact donating to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation which makes your purchase eligible for a tax credit. Once you have completed your purchase, we will issue a tax receipt in your name and send it either by email within 24 hours or by mail within 10 business days.

  14. Why is giving my email address mandatory?

    Providing your email address allows us to reduce our costs, eliminates tax-receipting errors and ensures that you get your electronic tax receipt within 24 hours. If you do not have an email address, please call 416-979-6909 or toll free at 1-800-414-0471 and we will help you with your order and arrange for you to receive your tax receipt by mail.

  15. Are CAMH Gifts of Light only for the holiday season?

    Some Gifts of Light are only available during the holiday season. These gifts include the blanket, care kit, holiday celebration, robe, slippers and pajamas, and winter warmers. Other items are available year round as they assist a patient on the road to recovery. These gifts include client learning, healing arts, strong families, and healthy breakfast.

  16. Who receives the gifts I purchase?

    All in-patients at CAMH qualify to receive Gifts of Light items.  The CAMH Foundation will work with the CAMH programming staff to ensure that items are distributed appropriately.

  17. Are some items better than others?

    No.  All of the gift items have been carefully selected to provide hope and comfort to patients at CAMH. Every gift is valuable and we leave it up to you to choose which gift you wish to give.

  18. What if the CAMH Foundation raises more funds than expected for a particular item?

    In the exceptional case where donations exceed what is needed for a particular item, CAMH Foundation will redirect funds to a similar item or program.

  19. How can I purchase a particular size of slippers, pajamas or robes?

    The CAMH Foundation will work closely with program staff to ensure that the appropriate sizes of slippers, pajamas, and robes are distributed to patients.

  20. How secure is my information?

    CAMH Foundation uses an encryption to protect the transfer of personal and financial information between your browser and our servers.  When using CAMH’s registration and donation pages, a small lock or key symbol in the status bar of your browser indicates that you are connected securely.  Personal information and financial transactions are stored on our secure database server.  Stringent security guidelines are in place to protect this data, and its use and release.  All other questions regarding privacy and how personal information is governed and managed by CAMH can be answered by clicking on this link to our Privacy Policy.

  21. What does the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Foundation do?

    The CAMH Foundation raises funds in support of the CAMH mission and vision. Your gifts help to improve the lives of those who face mental illness and addiction, and help to create communities in which these people can access support and thrive.

    Donors to the CAMH Foundation improve the lives of those facing mental illness and addiction, by enabling CAMH to provide the very best in research and care for our clients. Our donors pave the way for innovation and discovery, and enable CAMH health professionals to respond quickly and effectively to needs and opportunities as they arise, assuring that our ongoing needs will be met. Chairs of learning, state-of-the art equipment, research fellowships, bioethics, and initiatives in client care are just a few areas where our donors have opened doors to better care and research.
